On 8 December 2025, the new version of the Swedish industry classification standard, SNI 2025, will be introduced, replacing SNI 2007. The update is being made to align with the European NACE Rev. 2.1 standard and better reflect today’s business landscape.

All companies will automatically be updated to SNI 2025 by Statistiska Centralbyrån (SCB), based on existing publicly available information about their activities.

Companies that wish to review or change their code can do so free of charge via the standard SNI service on verksamt.se

What does the change mean?

The new version of SNI enables more reliable and comparable statistics, both nationally and within the EU. The changes primarily affect sectors within information technology and services, where several codes have been split or adjusted.

For most companies, the update means receiving a new code while their practical business description remains the same.

Impact on AML processes and regulatory compliance

For organisations working with financial monitoring and regulatory compliance, the transition to SNI 2025 is an important change. SNI codes are used in Know Your Customer (KYC), risk classification, and screening to identify and assess the risk levels associated with different business activities.

As SNI 2007 is replaced, all systems that use industry codes for AML purposes must be updated to the SNI 2025 structure. This ensures that risk models, customer profiles, and screening results remain accurate after December 2025.

Organisations are therefore recommended to:

  • Review customer registers and AML systems where SNI codes are used.
  • Update data mappings and risk models to SNI 2025.
  • Ensure that the new industry codes are integrated into screening and regulatory compliance processes.
